It
would be ironic, perhaps, if Thomas Erdos should
become the new Stig, having partnered Ben Collins
in the RML AD Group LMP2 programme for the
past two seasons, so relax – it
isn’t about to happen. However, the two-times
class winner at Le Mans has bagged himself a
new role as chief test driver for a new motoring
programme that will hit the screen next month.
Urban
Life Motoring will be broadcast weekly on Sky,
Freesat and Real Digital channels from early
April, and will see the Brazilian
co-presenting the programme – as himself – alongside
George Layton (Doctor in the House, It
Ain’t
Half Hot Mum and, more recently, Eastenders)
and Danielle Christie (The Garage and Revved
Up).

Urban
Life Motoring is being billed as a show for
serious “petrol heads”, with
an emphasis on fast and luxurious cars from the
higher end of the market – both prestige
as well as sporting. There will also be features
and test drives of classic cars, car events,
automotive news, motorsport, and behind-the-scenes
investigations into the car industry.
Tommy’s
role will be to carry out in-depth track and
road tests on some of the latest high-end performance
cars, as well as introducing celebrities and
famous faces to examples of the latest crop
of exotic machinery to come from the likes
of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley
and Maserati.
The
call to arms for Tommy came rather suddenly,
and he was whisked off to the Westbury Hotel
in Mayfair, off Bond Street, for the launch
a couple of weeks ago. “It all seems
a bit surreal at the moment,” he admitted. “We
start shooting any day now. The Noble M600
will be the first car for me to test, and that
will take place on the 27th March, and there's
a classic F1 car on the schedule for later
in the series, as well as one of the new Maclarens.
It’s
quite exciting, and a great opportunity for
me.”
The
trio of presenters will also be visiting most
of the major shows and events, as well as reporting
on the big news items from the world of cars
and motorsport.
The
first hour-long episode will air in the middle
of April. This year 31 episodes will
be broadcast and from next year this will increase
to 46. Full schedule for the programmes can
be viewed on
Zapaday.
