RML
Secures Third Successive WTCC Title Haul
Manufacturers'
Title Assured - Focus Moves to Drivers' Championship
• Ray
Mallock predicts "The Drivers’ Championship
will go right down to the wire with three of
the best Touring Car drivers in the world fighting
for the title."
• Triple podium spot for Chevrolet and
RML in Suzuka, Japan
• Yvan Muller and Rob Huff now tied 1st
/ 2nd in Drivers’ Championship with two
events remaining
• Teammate Alain Menu is the only other
driver who can win the championship
RML
secured its third successive FIA World Touring
Car Manufacturers Championship at Suzuka at
the weekend with two rounds still remaining.
The dominance of the RML-prepared Chevrolet
Cruze's in qualifying gained enough points
to secure the title before the start of race
one at the challenging Suzuka Circuit in Japan.
The
confines of Japan’s Suzuka East Circuit
were ideally suited to the RML-prepared Chevrolet
Cruze’s and the all-star works driver line-up
of Alain Menu, Yvan Muller and Rob Huff who went
onto claim a 1-2-3 in race one.
The
focus now shifts to the Drivers’ Championship
with Yvan Muller and Rob Huff tied with 345 points
in first and second, while third place Alain
Menu gained enough points in Suzuka to maintain
a shot at the championship.
Ray
Mallock, Chief Executive, RML Group said: “The
whole team at RML is both delighted and proud
to have secured the Manufacturers’ Championship
for Chevrolet. This third consecutive WTCC Championship
underlines RML’s ability to manage all
aspects of a race programme for a car brand to
deliver multiple wins and multiple FIA World
Championships.
“The focus now moves onto the Drivers’ Championship
where the battle for the title will be fought
within our team. In Yvan, Rob and Alain we have
three of the best touring car drivers in the
world. It’s going to be a fascinating contest
that I believe will go right down to the wire.
“It
is so tight that even a minute mistake from
one of them will decide the title. As always,
RML will be preparing absolutely equal equipment
for China and all three drivers will of course
be free to race for the title."
